Inscrit dans le cadre national des licences professionnelles, mais réservé aux IUT avec certains principes dérogatoires, il s’appuie sur une approche par compétences sophistiquée, déclinée de la même manière pour les vingt-quatre spécialités d’IUT. Ce cadre introduit une puissante formalisation d’approches pédagogiques qui inspiraient certes déjà les IUT, avec l’objectif affiché de s’adapter à un public accru de bacheliers technologiques dont la réussite est médiocre en licence générale. Le DUT Infocom se voit ainsi doté d’une singularité forte dans le champ des formations en information-communication, même si les moyens matériels et humains requis laissent perplexes sur les modalités réelles de mise en œuvre. Dans tous les cas l’expérience doit susciter l’attention, car il n’est pas improbable qu’elle prépare l’introduction de l’approche par compétences dans d’autres formations universitaires. The University Bachelor of Technology, implemented in September 2021, redesigns the educational offer in the field of Media and communication sciences in French higher education. Whereas it is embedded in the national framework of the professional licenses, it will be exclusively offered in the university institutes of technology (IUT), with exemption schemes ; it is also grounded on a sophisticated skill-based pedagogical approach, which concerns the 24 existing teaching specialties. The IUT were pioneers in pedagogical approaches, but the BUT, strongly process-driven, aims to formalise existing practices, in order to cope with a new assistance of technological high school graduates, who do poorly in traditional licenses. This Bachelor is therefore set up with a unique identity among the higher education curricula of Media and communication, but without the financial and human resources required, will it fully achieve its aims ? Whether it does or not, this experiment should be scrutinized, as it may prepare the introduction of skill-based approaches in a wider range of public university curricula.
